Investigators

Legal work would not be thorough without the help of volunteer invesitgators to assist in developing the facts of matters through investigation.

What We Have Here for You

Chelsea Legal Services, Inc. seeks assistance in the following legal areas:

Housing Law

Every month, more tenants are falling behind on rent. A report from the Boston Foundation estimated that 18,000 households could face eviction in Suffolk County once the eviction band expires on October 17, 2020. CLS needs help finding protections for renters at risk of losing their homes.

Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy is a legal process through which people or other entities who cannot repay debts to creditors may seek relief from some or all of their debts. In the era of Covid-19, many people find the only option to climb out of the massive debt they face is to file for legal relief. CLS needs help in this area.

Divorce / Child Support

The end of many marriages due to the quaranteen is another casualty of COVID-19. Child support is money paid by a parent to help with the financial needs of a child when the parents don't live together. CLS will be providing basic support to families to assist in self-help paperwork and calculations of the complicated Massachusetts Childs Support Guidelines.

Immigration

We assist individuals and families from foreign countries in achieving legal entry and authorization to the United States. Whether you plan to study, work, or establish a permanent residence in the United States CLS is here to help.

Criminal Defense

There are several reasons one may be charged with a crime including mistaken identity, false accusations, lack of restraint, poor judgment, or feeling that one had no other choice but to commit certain actions under the circumstances. Regardless of the situation that led to a criminal charge, if you are accused of a criminal offense in Massachusetts, your best option to help mitigate the consequences is to consult with an attorney from CLS.

Mental Health

Massachusetts has civil commitment laws that establish criteria for determining when involuntary treatment is appropriate for individuals with severe mental illness who cannot seek care voluntarily. In a psychiatric emergency, the more you know about the laws and treatment options, the better prepared you will be to respond in the most effective way possible. CLS can provide basic assistance.

Wills & Life Planning

People of modest means can spare their loved ones serious headaches by creating a simple estate plan and will to dictate what happens to their property at the time of their deaths our "estate" is everything you own—all your property and property rights, even assets with loans against them. They don't die when you do. They have to move into the ownership of a living beneficiary because a decedent can't own property. Let the attorneys at CLS help you with simple matters.

Simple Contracts

A simple contract is a written document that is drawn up between two parties people that clearly spell out their agreements and/or understandings. Let the attorneys at CLS take a look at your agreement to make sure it clearly lists everything needed to be said.

Restraining Orders

A "Restraining Order" also known as a "209A Order" or an "Abuse Prevention Order" is a civil court order that provides protection from physical or sexual harm caused by force or threat of harm from a family or household member. If you are in need of protection or need to have questions answered regarding one that was obtained against you, contact the attorneys at CLS.
